Hydro’s Svein Richard Brandtzæg appointed chair of IAI
Svein Richard Brandtzæg, CEO & President of Hydro, has been appointed chairperson of the IAI, at the Institute's 38th Annual General Meeting. Brandtzæg is appointed IAI chair for a period of two years – and replaces Artem Volynets from UC Rusal. “Artem has provided us with strong, positive leadership during the global market upheaval that all of us have faced over the past two years – and I am looking forward to building on the work underway here in the IAI,” said Svein Richard Brandtzæg.8 Jul 2010
Post Graduate Certificate course on aluminium smelting – 24 November to 15 December 2010, Bahrain
The comprehensive 3-week programme covers both theoretical and practical aspects of aluminium smelting. The course incorporates visits to operating smelters, interactive discussions, assignments, and rigorous assessment commensurate with the University of Auckland’s high standards. In addition, a 2-day forum will be held over the 24th-25th November for managerial level participants. This workshop will focus on the key issues currently affecting the aluminium industry and provide participants with a forum to discuss these issues along with possible solutions.

ICSOBA 18th International Symposium, Zhengzhou, China 25 to 27 November 2010
The main objective of the International Committee for the Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) is to promote/exchange ideas and results of work from different fields of research related to bauxite exploration and exploitation, and alumina and aluminium production. To realize this, experts from different disciplines, mineralogy, geology, geochemistry, environmental aspects, mining of bauxite, and related ores, technology of alumina and aluminium production, are invited periodically to meet together for conferences and symposia, field excursions in different regions of the world where bauxites occur, and to publish a unique Journal Travaux d’ICSOBA.The ICSOBA Secretariat is pleased to announce the 18th International Symposium will be held in Zhengzhou, China from 25 to 27 November 2010. The theme of the 18th Symposium is “Overview of Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminium Industry worldwide with special reference to China”.
